Playa Caribe, Condo #9

We spent four nights here. Loved watching sunrise, walking everywhere, going to the lagoon. It's a real treat. Important to know there's no elevator in the building. Stairs are good exercise!

This was our first experience with a rental in Mexico. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience, playa caribe was gorgeous. Playa caribe #9 will always hold a special place in our hearts, we made some fun family memories there. We had top notch service with everyone we came into contact with, David with Akumal Direct was phenomenal. During our stay at Playa Caribe we rented a golf cart and that was the highlight we had so much fun trolling around the beautiful town of Akumal. We did have some minor issues with scheduled transportation but all in all it was minor, David did his best to resolve quickly.
This was truly one of the best vacations our little girls will always remember this beautiful place and the fun memories we made.

The little enclave around Half Moon Bay is delightful, and a perfect escape/welcoming after a day of hectic activities around the Maya Riviera. The unit is very comfortable and well maintained with both maid and management staff on-site daily. Especially nice is the table and sofa on the deck for early morning coffee. The location is great except when the sargassum grass comes in as Playa Caribe is in the middle of the bay where it accumulates. A couple of comments for planning your menu - there is no conventional oven (a toaster oven too small for pizza's) and there is no gas grill on the property for grilling. Neither is a problem, just good to know ahead of time.

We had a lovely time even though the winds were high & blowing in lots of sargassum due to their direction. That's out of anyone's control, the weather. I could only locate 1 of 2 hair dryers & the 1 should be updated with a newer model. We were told there would be salt & pepper, eventually found salt though we'd purchased one by then. There were no coffee filters but the maid found some for us when requested. The daily housecleaning is fabulous & so appreciated. Loco ****** was very responsive during the process. If we ever return to Akumal, we would stay at Playa Caribe again.

The unit was better than described. It was beautifully decorated and very well supplied. The staff is amazing-able to answer all questions and get anything you need! However, the beach is limited. Erosion is occurring and shrinking the amount of beachfront here. In addition, sargassum is abundant and not really removed from the beach area. Also, be prepared for a very rocky entry into the ocean. Water shoes didn't help that much on windy days. Rocks are abundant and will impact your ability to wade in to the ocean. The staff does a great job cleaning condo beachfront chairs but daily sargassum is a major problem in this area. We visited in early March and is was very problematic.

What a great place to stay! Well decorated and equipped and stunning views of sunrise, sunset, and all the activities of Half Moon Bay. We loved walking to La Lunita, our favorite restaurant in Akumal.

One of the absolute best Vacation Stays we ever had. Starting with the staff, they could not have been any nicer.

The views are breathtaking. We woke up each morning with a coffee on the balcony overlooking the sunrise and listening to the waves crash against the beach.

We felt super safe in the gated community and also a few great restaurants within walking distance.

If you’re looking for crazy nightlife, Akumal is not the right fit.. If you’re looking into a relaxing getaway, look no further!

Despite the crisis of Covid19, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in quiet paradise at Playa Caribe #9. The condo is spacious and the decor is amazing. Communication from the owner, Shari, was fantastic. We did several of her suggestions, including the Santa Cruz cenote, which was truly memorable. We snorkelled right out front of the condo several times and saw lots of fish, 2 sea turtles, a sting ray.As a result of closing borders, we needed to end our stay one day early. Shari was understanding and generous in this regard.We highly recommend this condo and owner! We would not hesitate to stay again!

Fabulous home-like condo on the 3rd Floor overlooking the beautiful Half Moon Bay. I highly recommend this property if you are looking for a laid back environment in an upscale property. Good local restaurants, beautiful beaches, extremely safe and a multitude of outdoor activities. We’ve been coming to Akumal for 25 years and loved staying at Playa Caribe. Akumal has definitely grown in size over the years but still has a boutique and personal feel. I highly recommend this property!

Our stay at Playa Caribe #9 was absolutely perfect. The condo is beautifully decorated and has absolutely everything you could possibly need. Upon entering we were blown away by the gorgeous view from the huge patio door in the living room. The kitchen is fully stocked with more dishes, pots and pans, glasses, and utensils than I even have at home! We cooked many meals in the condo and had everything we needed. The bedrooms are spacious and again, beautifully decorated with art work (some originals from the owner) and many personal touches. There is plenty of closet space and dressers to unpack your things and move right in! The beds are super comfortable and the bathrooms were fully stocked with large showers and plentiful hot water. Everywhere you look in this condo you see that this is not just a condo...but a beautiful home that someone is willing to share with you.The beach is a little rocky and during our stay it was quite windy so it was a bit difficult to enter the ocean but we walked up and down the beach and visited “La Buena Vida” several times for delicious meals and margaritas. We were able to walk everywhere, to Akumal Beach (swam with turtles), to the shops and to Turtle Bay Cafe (wonderful breakfast) and La Cueva del Pescador (lobster dinner). The area is very safe with many friendly people. We also toured Santa Cruz Cenote (a “must see”) and snorkeled at Yal Ku Lagoon which was an amazing experience. We used the pool several times to cool off. So clean and refreshing!Our trip to this condo was terrific but more importantly was the communication with the owner. From the moment I booked the reservation, Shari was in contact with me to give us advice on transportation, excursions, recommendations for restaurants and she answered any questions. I really can’t say enough about her helpfulness and the touches she has put into this condo.I have been to Mexico many time and I highly recommend this condo due to the cleanliness (housekeeping came every day), the beauty, the comfort, and the location.Thank you, Shari for sharing your beautiful home with us!Hasta la proxima vez!

Some basics: A just soft enough but firm bed, great showers, nice amount of living space, museum-quality décor, fully equipped kitchen, and a balcony set-up we didn't want to leave.This is one of the nicest condos we've rented over multiple trips to Qintana Roo, thanks to the delightful Mexican art throughout. A fine, color-sensitive decorating hand has coordinated everything including the dinner-and glass-ware. Our ONLY suggestion would be for higher watt bulbs in the living room lamps; evening reading was difficult. Even though we were there in early February both the pool and Half-Moon Bay were warm enough to swim in, unusual for this part of Mexico in our experience. Snorkeling was unexciting in the mid-part of the bay, but interesting to the south where a large area of fan and stick-like corals moved with the current like ballerinas. Water there was glass-clear and looked to be about 5-8 feet deep, with intermittent areas of sand where snorkelers could stand after making sure the area was clear of coral, rays, or anything else that could be damaged. Did see a huge ray just lifting out of clear sand very close to shore -- first clue was its long tail waving just to my left. Other than that, we were surprised how few fish we saw; others reported a drop in fish numbers at the commercial snorkeling at the north end of the bay (sorry, can't remember its name).All in all, we loved this place and give it high marks.

We had a beautiful stay in Shari's place. From my experience, this bay in Akumal has to be the best location for snorkelling on the entire Maya strip and after this visit, I don't think I could bear to stay anywhere else! As for the apartment itself...Not only is the view spectacular but the place is fully equipped with everything one could need and more. Everything from the cozy design, comfortable bed and open shared spaces made it really feel like home. On top of it, the staff were always very friendly and helpful. We keep looking back fondly at our photos and are already itching for the next visit!

Spent a week at Playa Caribe #9 as a family of four (kids 8 and 11) and enjoyed everything about the experience. The condo is well equipped and extremely comfortable with a spectacular view of Half Moon Bay. The staff and management of the building are super helpful answering questions and pointing new visitors in the right direction. Being able to drink the water in the condo was a huge bonus for us as well. We used Akumal as a home base to explore beaches, cenotes, ruins, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. The location in Akumal was perfect for visiting all of these sites. If you are looking for a safe, clean and comfortable condo in the Akumal area I highly recommend Playa Caribe #9. We plan on staying there again on a future visit.

Playa Caribe #9 was beautiful with its fantastic ocean view, beautiful eclectic decor, and complete kitchen (it looks just like the photos) - we have been visiting Akumal for >20 years and this is the prettiest condo we have ever seen there. There was no sargassum and the water was calm and flat. We watched 88 baby turtles hatch and run into the ocean one night just outside the condo! Although we bought some groceries from the tiny store across the street, we ate out for most of our meals except breakfast at the great local restaurants - we love Turtle Bay Cafe since they have healthy food that every one of my picky children loves. We did all the activities in Shari’s (the owner’s) Guide she sent us before we left and they were exciting - especially the denote she recommended that was natural and private -- and much nicer than Xplor. Patty the maid was wonderful and kept it so clean. We hope to come back soon.

We just left from a vacation in Akumal. The vacation was great; Staying at Playa Caribe #9 was a perfect addition to that great experience. The staff was so friendly and very helpful. We felt so welcome as soon as we set foot in the property. Agustin was awesome, and he is always smiling. Our maid was Patricia and she was very always on time and made sure our place was always clean and organized everyday. The condo is a paradise, so beautiful. The view from the deck and the entire condo was amazing. We watched the sunrise and the full moon relaxing on the deck.We watched the sunset on another deck off the master bedroom. The kids enjoyed the pool which was very clean. They enjoyed watching the three little iguanas that roamed around the pool. They even named them Brad, Gary and Pedro. We will miss them. The property is so safe and secure as there is a security guard on duty each night. Well Akumal is very safe in the first place. The condo is pretty stacked with all the things you need. The beds are really comfy and place has ample space for the 5 of us. It is a walking distance to La Buena Vida restaurant, and we ate there almost everyday. We biked to Yalku lagoon, to town, and to Turtle beach. Its a great way to ride a bike around town as traffic and parking can be a hassle in town. I truly recommend Playa Caribe #9 to anyone who wants to stay in Akumal. And the owner Shari is great, accommodating, prompt communicator, and has lots of ideas and suggestion to add to your great vacation.

From the booking, which was through the owner, to flying down, to staying in a paradise, gorgeous condo, we couldn’t have asked for more.The owner had everything so organized, in a little booklet. She informed us of transportation choices to Akumal, places to dine, grocery markets, and the many fun things to do in the area. I still phoned her several times, and she was so patient answering my many, sometimes redundant, questions. We really hardly had to think at all, just play and relax.The condo is bright and open, with fantastic views from every room. Beautifully newly decorated, with new towels in bathrooms! The welcome basket was a nice touch. All the appliances worked.We used the suggested daily schedule to do all the things available in Akumal.We also rented snorkel gear for the week, as she suggested, and the underwater sightings of colorful fish and many many turtles were thrills of a lifetime!We ate in a few nights and also enjoyed the many restaurants in Akumal. Our favorite was La Buena Vida, great happy hour, delicious affordable food, and tables right in the sand. Oh, and entertainment, too. Grocery store and restaurants are no more than 5 to 10 minute walk.It was everything we dreamed of and we’ve already booked for around Christmas time . We loved it so much!

There were 3 adult women in our group and we chose this We made the best choice ever. We are kind of gourmet ladies so we ate at home a lot, cooking chevre stuffed chicken that is very tender here, spaghetti sauce with chorizo, chicken mole, beef steak. We went fishing one day and caught a dorado and then grilled it on the ocean terrace with the owner’s BBQ. We were right out of a TV commercial with drinks and fresh fish on the ocean terrasse with the ocean breezes and the seabirds swooping, smiling and laughing. This was a marvelous experience and I highly recommend this condo to everyone.

This is my third trip to Akumal and my third stay in condo 9. I have to say it is my absolute favorite since it is on the third floor with the fantastic view of the ocean and the beach, the sunset at night over the water and the jungle. The furniture is beautiful and the condo looks like a magazine. Patricia the maid thoroughly cleans the condo every day, and not to have to do dishes, what a treat. I have done all of the activities Shari suggests in her booklet and each has been a success. She quickly addresses all my questions and needs in our emails. I know I will come back again.

I could stay forever and live here, this condo is so easy and wonderful and beautiful. The broad view of the ocean, the furnishings, the fully stocked kitchen, the cleanliness, the friendliness of Agustin and Patricia all make me want to return again. Hopefully I will very soon. Thank you.
